COMCOM rules that Magticom cannot abolish the 25 GEL Unlimited Package
Magticom will be unable to abolish the 25 GEL unlimited package “Martivi 25.” The Communications Commission took a decision to this end on the back of conducting research and analysing the retail service market. As a result of the ruling, subscribers will retain the service and will also be able to activate the unlimited package after 7 July. Market research revealed that Magticom’s move to abolish the popular “Martivi 25” package and replace it with “Martivi 30” was unambiguously designed to make services more expensive and reduce the choice for the subscribers.
COMCOM’s research involved examining the terms of retail segment offers and analysing consumer preferences and behaviour in detail. Research showed that “Martivi 25” was one of Magticom’s most popular packages that was mainly used by subscribers for the unlimited voice call services, while the amount of internet was insufficient and required the purchase of additional packages. Therefore, the new 30 GEL package, which was announced by Magticom as an improved version of “Martivi 25,” actually served to make services more expensive, as customers still had to purchase additional internet packages while paying more for the voice call services. Research also showed that the 30 GEL package would not prove to be popular, while “Martivi 25” is still high in demand.
To protect consumer interests, COMCOM already forced Magticom to retain the 25GEL unlimited package last year. On this occasion, the company had temporarily paused the process of replacing “Martivi 25” with “Martivi 30” until 7 July but will now be forced to retain the former package.
