Magticom, Silknet and Veon Georgia will be unable to raise Service Rates without COMCOM’s Approval

Starting from today, Magticom, Silknet and Veon Georgia will be unable to increase the rates on mobile communications services without COMCOM’s approval. The Commission took this unprecedented and important decision to protect consumer interests and prevent the limiting of competition on the mobile communications market. The new regulation covers mobile voice and internet services, as well as short SMS messages.

COMCOM’s new regulation will guarantee that the existing offers will remain in place and consumers will be protected from paying unreasonably high rates.

COMCOM’s ruling came on the back of conducting mobile retail service market study and analysis, during which the Commission examined the current retail offers from Magticom, Silknet and Veon Georgia and analysed customer needs on the mobile communications market. Research showed that the existing offers in the voice call service segment are not diverse enough to meet customer needs. Customers are therefore often forced to purchase combined service packages without taking full advantage of the packages’ resources.

As a result of the ruling, powerful operators will be unable to change their service rates without the prior approval of the Commission.
