Akaki Sikharulidze Appointed as Acting Chairman of Commission

Akaki Sikharulidze, Commission Member, was appointed to the position of the acting Chairman of the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC).

According to the amendments made to the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, which has been in force as of the moment of swearing in of Georgia’s new President Giorgi Margvelashvili, in case of resignation or absence of the chairperson or incapability of fulfilling his/her duties, the oldest Commission member shall be appointed to the position of acting chairperson.

We remind you that the Parliament of Georgia made a decision on dismissal of the Commission’s former Chairman and Member Karlo Kvitaishvili from the position of the Chairman of the Georgian National Communications Commission on November 1, 2013. It must be noted that Karlo Kvitaishvili appealed to Kutaisi City Court against the decision of the Georgian Parliament. The Court commenced the appeal proceeding.
