Cable Operator GNN Has Been Imposed a Fine
The Georgian National Communications Commission imposed a fine on a cable operator GNN at the session held today.
The company was carrying out illegal retransmission of the Argentine Football Championship on TV channel “Football” via its own cable network without any authority.
The Georgian National Communications Commission in the process of administrative proceedings ascertained that the company GMG has the exclusive right to transmit the mentioned Championship. The corresponding agreement is presented to the Commission. Despite the fact that GNN also had authorization to transmit “Football” and had presented it to the Commission, the operator had an obligation to observe the Law of Georgia on Copyright and Associated Rights and not to transmit the Championship via its cable network.
The representative of GNN as well as the lawyer of GMG expressed their positions at the session. After examining the proofs the Georgian National Communications Commission took a decision to impose sanctions on GNG – a fine in the amount of 9 029 GEL and 36 tetri.
