Caucasus Online fined GEL 90,000 and could have Authorisation Revoked

Caucasus Online and Railway Telecom once again failed to comply with GNCC’s instructions, leading to Caucasus Online being issued with a fine of GEL 90,000, while Railway Telecom has been fined GEL 63 930. The case concerns the sale of shares in the aforementioned companies without GNCC’s approval. This was the third time that the Commission instructed the authorised entities to revert their shareholding to the pre-sale status quo, setting a deadline of 22 February. Should the companies once again fail to comply, GNCC may raise the possibility of revoking their authorisation.

On 12 December, GNCC fined both companies GEL 30,000 each for violating their duties and gave them time until 18 January to revert their shareholdings to the pre-sale status quo and present a confirmation document to the Commission. However, the companies failed to comply with these instructions for the third time.

According to the Law of Georgia on Electronic Communications, a repeat violation occurring within the  year is subject to a financial penalty. Therefore, during its meeting on 6 February, GNCC issued Caucasus Online with a GEL 90,000 fine, while Railway Telecom was fined GEL 63,930.
