The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili has explained reasons about postponing the date of transition into the digital broadcasting. As Giorgi Kvirikashvili has stated during the briefing held today, Georgia is committed to international obligations to make a switch into digital broadcasting on June 17^th of the current year. In order to make this happen – the Ministry of Economy and Digital Broadcasting Agency together with GNCC have performed great deal of work. “The whole infrastructure has been created and country is ready to switch into digital broadcasting, however, in connection with current natural disasters, we considered it would be appropriate not to create additional discomfort for our population that has already suffered enormous amount of stress. We believe, that at this point, instead of June 17, we should take July 1^st in order to transition into digital broadcasting, let 2 weeks pass so the country can come out from emergency mode and the implementation of this process could be ensured in rather relaxed mode.” – Kvirikashvili stated. As he explained, the shutdown of analogue broadcasting begins from Tbilisi, although, this is about to happen not on June 17, but assumingly on 1^st of July. “ Until then  few more announcements  will be made in order for the population to be better prepared and be able to purchase set-top-boxes- an equipment necessary for the digital switchover.” – Kvirikashvili noted.
