Communications Commission fines TV Alt-Info for broadcasting Obscenity and Violence

The Communications Commission has fined TV Alt-Info GEL 2500 for broadcasting obscenity and material unsuitable for minors. The case concerns the political talk show Alt-Analytics, which was aired at 21:00 on 5 March. The programme contained numerous offensive statements that served to insult and stigmatise specific persons and groups. The Commission ruled that the language used on the show violated ethical norms, had no social, political, cultural, educational or scientific value, and violated fundamental human rights.

Further, programme presenters also attempted to justify actions such as physical violence against children, as well as violence in general. This is not only unacceptable, but also constitutes a crime in accordance with the Criminal Code of Georgia. According to the law, programmes with content of this kind are unsuitable for persons under 18 years of age, and cannot be aired between 06:00 and 00:00. However, the broadcaster unlawfully aired the content at 21:00.

The Communications Commission believes that the broadcasting of such programmes is highly damaging both to the adult audience and minors. The commission has therefore fined TV Alt-Info GEL 2500 for violating the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting.
