Communications Commission prevents Magticom from raising Tariffs

The Communications Commission has prevented Magticom from raising tariffs. The company had announced its intention to this end on 18 February. The Commission took the decision during its recent meeting. Following the announcement made by Magticom and Silknet about their intentions to raise tariffs, the Commission called on both companies to halt the process and await the results of market research that is being conducted by the Commission. This request was only heeded by Silknet. Due to the fact that Magticom refused to reconsider their intentions, the Commission used the levers afforded to it by the legislation to protect consumer interests and prevented Magticom from raising tariffs.

Magticom’s decision to raise tariffs would have a detrimental effect on its customers. The Commission aims to protect consumer interests to the best of its ability, and has therefore decided to halt the process of raising tariffs until its market research is completed.

The tariffs in question concern mobile sound service packages and the cost of calls to smaller mobile operators. Magticom was also specifically instructed to retain its GEL 25 unlimited package, which it had planned to remove.
