European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Assessed Communications Sector of 29 Countries

 

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) carried out research on communications sector of 29 countries (CIS and European Union). Georgia was highly assessed. The purpose of the research was to verify whether communications sector in Georgia is consistent with the recommendation document worked out by World Trade Organization, which Georgia joined in 2000.

The conference on this subject was held today in the hotel “Courtyard Marriott”. It was organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and was attended by the representatives of all countries which participated in the research. The Acting Chairperson of the Georgian National Communications Commission, Sofia Britanchuk, opened the conference.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) carried out the assessment of the countries on the basis of the examination of the following criteria: Interconnection and special access, SMP and safe guards, Market access radio, Market access wired, Despute resolution and appeal, Regulatory independence. According to these criteria Georgia was highly assessed among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The research results of the EBRD are also important for potential investors of Georgia.
