European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) October 8-10, Tbilisi

 

Today, on October 8th, at 20:00 pm in hotel “Radisson Blu Iveria, ”  the chairman of the parliament David Usupashvili will be opening the three day conference for European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA).

At least 130 delegates from the regulatory authorities of more than 40 European countries visited Georgia to attend the high level conference.  Among guests, mainly the senior officials from regulatory bodies of European broadcasting are represented. Within a scope of 3 day conference, the important issues will be discussed such as: audiovisual media service regulation in the setting of technological development, digital broadcasting, protection of consumers’ rights in telecommunications field and financial and political independence of regulatory authorities.

On October 9th, at 9 pm, the chairman of Georgian National Communications Commission Vakhtang Abashidze will open the business part of the conference with welcoming speech and will discuss the present situation in Georgian broadcasting sector, its future plans and challenges.

European Platform of Regulatory Authorities  (EPRA) was established in 1995 and connects 52 European countries. Georgia is EPRA’s member since 2011.

The permanent observers of EPRA are: Euro Commission, Council of Europe, OSCE The Representative on Freedom of the Media and European Audiovisual Observatory. The members of above- mentioned organizations have visited the conference as well.
