Georgia is the Regional Leader in the Field of Electronic Communications – EU4Digital Steering Committee talks about Georgia’s Success

The Communications Commission took part in the second meeting of the EU4Digital Steering Committee. The meeting was organized by the European Commission, and was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The EU4Digital project is implemented with the support of the European Commission. It aims to facilitate integration between the Eastern Partnership countries and the EU in the digital sector.

EU4Digital deals with important issues such as electronic communications, trust and security, e-commerce, development of information and communication technologies, digital healthcare and digital skills. The project involves the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg), as well as the World Bank and Ernst & Young, who have been hired by the European Commission for the EU4Digital project.

Independence of regulators, reduction of roaming tariffs, harmonization of the frequency spectrum, development of broadband services, devising the broadband strategy and mapping the digital infrastructure – these are the key issues included in the electronic communications component.

As part of the thematic discussion, representatives of the Communications Commission held a presentation about the importance of implementation and development of 5G in the Eastern Partnership region.

The European Commission emphasized that the implementation of the electronic communications component is proceeding successfully thanks to the key role played by EaPeReg. As a member of the network, the Communications Commission has been actively involved in the project from the beginning, and is significantly contributing towards its success. Various experts stated on numerous occasions during the meeting that Georgia is the regional leader in the field of electronic communications.
