Georgia’s Results in the Fields of Audiovisual Media and Information Society Services assessed positively by the European Union

Information society, audiovisual services and the importance of the media, science and technologies, education, youth, culture and sports – these are the topics discussed at the 4th online meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Sub-Committee on Economic and Other Sector Cooperation. The meeting, which was held as a video conference due to the pandemic, was attended by representatives of the Communications Commission.

The purpose of the meeting was to assess Georgia’s progress in implementing the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and Association Agenda in the aforementioned important fields. Georgia’s efforts and results regarding integration with the EU in the fields of audiovisual media and information society services (ISS) were evaluated positively by the European Union.

The meeting was attended by the EU delegation and representatives of various ministries of Georgia. Suggestions and positions were exchanged on all topical and significant issues.  

The meeting also discussed Georgia’s potential in the Digital Silk Road project and the country’s unique opportunity to establish itself as a digital hub and data center.

Furthermore, representatives of the Communications Commission briefed the EU delegation on the measures taken by the Commission with regards to the liberalization of fixed and mobile communications markets, the development of broadband networks and the implementation of 5G technology, as well as the steps taken towards the approximation of Georgian legislation with the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive.
