GNCC Conducts School Training on Safer Use of the Internet

On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, representatives of the Media Literacy department of the Georgian National Communications Commission conducted interactive trainings on the subject of safe use of the internet in three state schools. The training sessions were attended by 3rd, 4th and 5th grade pupils. The aim of the training was to protect youngsters from dangers in online space and promote safe navigation of the web. The youths were introduced to the online app and board game “Happy Onlife,” which allows children, parents and teachers to learn to use digital media safely. The app is designed to enable children and youths to learn to critically assess and analyse online content through play. The “Happy Onlife” app focusses on important issues such as:

• Cyberbullying;

• Critical assessment of online sources;

• Communication with parents, teachers and adults;

• Protecting personal data online.

One of the main goals of the media literacy development projects is to protect youth from online threats and raise their awareness. In the age of technology, it is important for youngsters to develop critical and creative thinking skills. The Media Literacy department of GNCC has been implementing 5 important media literacy projects for the past two years.
