Contests have been announced for the issuance of private and community radio broadcasting licenses

GNCC has announced contests for the issuance of private and community radio broadcasting licenses in 6 municipalities of Georgia.

In accordance with the Commission’s decision, contests for the issuance of 2 private-general and 2 private-specialized licenses, have been announced in the following cities and localities:

  • Borjomi – at FM 103.9, cost of the private-general radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 6 075 GEL;
  • Bakuriani – at FM 90.7, cost of the private-general radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 4 252, 50 GEL;
  • Igoeti - at FM 93.7, cost of the private-specialized radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 5 163, 75 GEL;
  • Khashuri - at FM 98.6, cost of the private-specialized radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 5 163, 75 GEL.

In accordance with the Commission’s decision, contests for the issuance of 2 community radio broadcasting licenses have been announced in following cities:

  • Gori - at FM 97.8, cost for the use of community radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 6 075 GEL.  

Application of “Gori Community Radio Mosaic” NNLE states, that radio service will serve interests of internally displaced persons residing on the territory of municipality of Gori, whose representatives will be actively involved in the process of broadcasting, also, radio will enable representatives of youth and agricultural workers of the community to inform their communities regarding the current issues.

  • Marneuli – at FM 96.9, cost for the use of community radio broadcasting license has been defined in the amount of 4 252, 50 GEL.

Application of “Journalist’s Union of Peoples Voice” NNLE states, that radio will service Azerbaijani, Armenian and Georgian communities residing on the territory of the municipality of Marneuli, whose representatives will be involved in the process of broadcasting.

The submission of applications for all 6 contests will be held at GNCC up until June 6, 2016, before 5 pm. The preparatory session, where sealed documents of the contestants will be publically opened, will be held on June 9, 2016, at 1 pm. An oral hearing session, where Commission’s broadcasting department will present its final conclusion in regard to broadcasting concept to the commissioners, contestants and public, will be held on July 8, 2016, at 1 pm. As for an actual hearing, where commissioners will reveal the winner bidders, is scheduled for July 14, 2016, at 1 pm.
