The Commission is reviewing a complaint submitted by the “Newspaper Batumelebi” against TV-Company “Ertsulovnbeba”

The “Newspaper Batumelebi” has addressed GNCC with a complaint against the Georgian Patriarchate Television “Ertsulovneba.”

The claim of the “Newspaper Batumelebi” concerns a story item aired by TV- Company “Ertsulovneba.” “Newspaper Batumelebi,” in its December 8-14 edition, has published a story about St. Matthias Gymnasium-boarding school, discussing disagreement between students and teachers. Several days later, on December 19, 2014, TV- Company “Ertsulovneba” aired a news item prepared about the same topic with a title: “Truth about St. Matthias Gymnasium-boarding school.”According to the newspaper, the story material was a response to the article, which was not observed with due accuracy and represented newspaper’s activities in a negative way. Based on these circumstances, in accordance with paragraph 1 of Article 14 of the “Code of Conduct for Broadcasters,”  “Newspaper Batumelebi,” submitted the complaint to the self-regulatory body of TV- Company “Ertsulovneba” and has requested the amendment of released information. However, as the newspaper explains, TV- Company “Ertsulovneba” has ignored their request. 

In accordance with the Georgian Law “on Broadcasting,” GNCC oversees the implementation of the legislation in the field of broadcasting, therefore, the Commission has begun the proceedings in regards to the “Newspaper Batumelebi’s” complaint against TV- Company “Ertsulovneba.”

The public hearing session, where parties of the dispute will be able to protect their positions and present arguments, will be held at the Commission on May 21, 2015 (16:00 pm). The session is public.
