Commission has assigned “Imedi TV” Ltd to broadcast the advertisement of NNLE “Solidarity Fund of Georgia”

GNCC has reviewed a complaint submitted by the NNLE “Solidarity Fund of Georgia” against “Imedi TV” Ltd and has assigned the company to broadcast social advertising that has been prepared by the fund.

The fund has been founded in June 9, 2014, in accordance with the Decree N1022 of the Prime-Minister of Georgia and its goal is to mobilize alternative (non-budget) resources by means of so-called innovative funding mechanisms with a participation of public, private sector and the state in order to support vulnerable children and families struggling with oncological diseases residing in Georgia. The fund has already provided assistance to more than 115 persons.

In order to inform Georgian citizens, in accordance with the Georgian law “on Broadcasting,” the fund has addressed “TV Imedi” in regard to the placement of a social video advertisement showcasing fund’s activities through their broadcasting net. However, “TV Imedi” has declined to grant the social status to the video advertisement and has refused to air it free of charge. This exact decision of “TV Imedi” became subject of dispute of NNLE “Solidarity Fund of Georgia.”

The Commission, in compliance with the Georgian law “on Broadcasting,” has launched general administrative proceedings based on a complaint submitted by NNLE “Solidarity Fund of Georgia” against “TV Imedi” Ltd. After reviewing an issue, the Commission has determined, that the video represents social advertisement and has assigned “Imedi TV” to air the above-noted video commercial.
