Proper use of digital services, development of remote learning and telemedicine, enabling digital financial services and e-commerce, enhancing tourism and entrepreneurship – these are only some of the opportunities created by the development of digital economy for the benefit of the Georgian population. The digital service component of the World Bank’s universal internet access project will be implemented by the Communications Commission.

The project will provide 1000 villages and 500,000 Georgian citizens, including the population of mountainous regions, with high-quality internet access and digital services such as electronic healthcare, remote learning, electronic governance etc.

The Log-in Georgia project will be implemented over five years by Open Net with support from COMCOM.

To raise awareness in the target settlements, COMCOM will conduct trainings for the local population and support targeted intervention for vulnerable groups. The Commission will use special training programmes to help people develop digital skills and take advantage of various electronic public services with the help of technology. There will also be special events in target settlements to enable women, ethnic and social minorities and disabled persons to use digital services. As a result of the project activities, rural population and regional enterprises will be able to benefit from the same opportunities that are currently afforded to the urban population.

Furthermore, in accordance with the national strategy for development of digital economy, COMCOM will use its regulatory reforms and policies as a tool for setting up networks and infrastructure that will provide all villages in Georgia (including the mountainous regions) with access to high-speed broadband internet. Regulated prices will allow internet providers to provide affordable services to the rural population, ensuring that all Georgians will be able to enjoy the benefits of high-speed internet access.
