Magticom Was Imposed Fine for Misleading Advertising

Magticom Ltd was imposed a fine at the session held today at the Georgian National Communications Commission. Administrative proceedings on sanctioning of the cable operator commenced on the basis of Global Media Group’s (GMG) request submitted to the Commission.

According to the request GMG accused the competitor company of misleading consumers by distributing improper advertisements of the following text: “Magtisat offers the leading sports channel in the world Setanta Sports. English Premier League, English FA Cup, United States Football League and National Hockey League matches. Over 500 live reporting a year, high professional commentary and the highest quality image only for Magtisat viewers.” Though GMG has also acquired the right to broadcast the mentioned sports programs in the Georgian language, Magtisat in its promo tells the viewer that only its subscribers can watch the mentioned sports programs and thus misleads the consumer.

Representatives of Magticom as well as representatives of Global Media Group (GMG) Ltd attended the session held at the Georgian National Communications Commission. All interested parties were given a possibility to express their opinions.

The Georgian National Communications Commission imposed a fine on Magticom in the amount of 90 000 GEL for the attempt to mislead the consumer by improper advertising.
