Media monitoring of the second round of the Parliamentary Elections has begun

CEC has appointed second round of the Parliamentary Elections in 48 MP Constituencies on October 30 of the current year, also, second round of the polling will be held in 2 MP Constituencies on October 22.

In accordance with the Organic Law of Georgia “on Elections” The pre-electoral period in the country launches as soon as the relevant legal act enters into force, in this particular case, in accordance with Article 126 of the same law, second round of the Parliamentary Elections of Georgia is appointed by the CEC.  

In accordance with the Organic Law of Georgia “on Elections,” Georgian law “on Broadcasting” and with Annex Commission’s resolution N9 of August 12, 2012, “on the approval of participation of media in the electoral process and the rules of its application, certain obligations are being imposed on broadcasting companies during pre-election process (detailed information is available at following link) as for the Commission, it ensures the monitoring of the obligations noted.

All general broadcasters fell under the subject of monitoring, including Public Broadcaster and the Public Broadcaster of Adjara. Subjects of Commission’s observations during the monitoring process are:

a) Pre-election advertising;

b) Pre-election debates;

c) News and social-political programs;

d) Pre-election agitation.

Also, the newspapers fully or partially financed from the Central Budget of Georgia fall under the monitoring as well.
