Mediacritic.ge – a guide between the public and the media

Mediacritic.ge is a new web platform that will offer professional, qualified and unbiased media critique to the public. The purpose of the platform is to enable critical perception of information and the making of sensible and informed choices. The platform was created by the Media Academy of the Communications Commission to help develop media literacy.

Mediacritic.ge will act as a guide between the public and the media. At the same time, it will enable professional development of journalists and producers.

The Media Academy, together with professional journalists and media experts, created its own media platform and an editorial code on which the learning process at the Academy will be based.

Accuracy of information; impartiality and honesty; public interest and accountability; separation of facts from opinions; balance; respect of personal privacy; no tolerance for discrimination; editorial autonomy and trust – these are the core principles that the editorial code will be based upon. Mediacritic.ge will offer media critique based on the aforementioned principles and help establish a professional circle of media critics.

In the age of modern technologies, when internet and social media often create informational chaos and fake news are disseminated on a daily basis, the public needs a high standard of media critique to act as a professional and qualified information filter.

There are currently no platforms in Georgian media space where the public can access unbiased, high-standard media critique. The Media Academy aims to establish such a platform, helping the media outlets create high-quality media product.

The Communications Commission founded its Media Literacy Department and the Media Academy in order to develop and promote media literacy. Aside from the media critique platform, the Academy also operates a media school, which helps media managers, producers and journalists enhance their qualifications, and the Media Lab, which aims to support and fund digital media startups.
