110 453 subscribers of mobile networks have made use of number porting service from February 15, 2011 until October 2012.

According to the latest data, Mobitel is the leader of mobile number portability. Mobitel has drawn 26 763 subscribers from other companies networks and 21 459 subscribers of Mobitel have ported their numbers to competitor companies networks.

Geocell is on the second place, which has drawn 44 445 subscribers from other companies networks and 39 338 subscribers of Geocell have ported their numbers to other mobile companies.

Silknet, which is a new operator on the market, acquired 67 subscribers and lost only 10 subscribers.

The only mobile company which has lost more subscribers than it has acquired as a result of porting is Magticom. Magticom has drawn 39 178 subscribers to its network and 49 646 subscribers have ported their numbers from Magticom to other mobile companies networks.

The Georgian National Communications Commission explains that the success of implementation of number portability technology is measured not by the quantity of ported numbers but by supporting the development of keen competition between the operators. Promoting the competition, on its side, will be reflected directly on the tariff policy of the operators. All this is done for the welfare of consumers, which is the main purpose of the Georgian National Communications Commission.
