National Prefix “8” Is Replaced by National Prefix “0” and International Prefix “00”

On January 11, 2012, at 24:00 the national prefix “8” will be disconnected. From January 12, 2012 it is necessary to dial the national prefix “0” before making domestic long-distance calls and calls made from mobile to fixed network and vice versa, from fixed network to mobile network, and before making international calls we should dial international prefix “00”.

The numbers of telephone operating companies providing long-distance and international phone service shall be changed. The codes of new 10XX format are, for instance:

8-07 shall be replaced by 10-07;

8-10 shall be replaced by 10-10;

8-11 - by 10-11;

8-16 - by 10-16;

8-18 - by 10-18

And so on.

In order to make a call it is necessary to dial first the code of the company providing long-distance and international phone service, international prefix “00”, then the code of the country, the code of the city and the number of a subscriber (if you make a call abroad ), for instance, 10XX00… If a call is made within Georgia it is necessary to dial the code of the operating company providing long-distance and international phone service, the code of the city and the number of a subscriber, or nine-digit number of a mobile subscriber, for instance:  10XX 0…

This is the final stage of changes envisaged by the new national numbering plan.
