The porting of subscriber numbers becomes more and more popular. According to the Georgian National Communications Commission’s information 43 500 subscribers have already made use of this service. In accordance with the Charter on Subscriber Number Portability approved by the Georgian National Communications Commission, the subscribers were given the possibility of porting the mobile numbers since February 15, 2011.

The most quantity of subscribers was added to Geocell, the company has drawn 25 300 subscribers from the competitor companies. Magticom Ltd is on the second place, the company has drawn 9 200 subscribers, and Mobiteli Ltd (Beeline) is on the third place, the company has drawn 8 900 subscribers from the networks of other mobile operators.

The success of introduction of subscriber number portability technology is measured not by size of ported subscribers’ statistics but by supporting the development of keen competition between the mobile operators. Promoting the competition, on its side, will be reflected directly on the tariff policy of the operators. All this is done for the welfare of consumers, which is the main purpose of the Georgian National Communications Commission.
