Revenues of Telecom Operators Decreased by GEL 32 Million in 2020

According to the annual report of the Communications Commission, telecom operators collected total revenues of GEL 1.153 billion in 2020, down from 1.185 billion in 2019. Thus, the revenues of telecom operators decreased by GEL 32 million in 2020. 

Revenues from retail services totaled GEL 961 million in 2020. This includes revenues from fixed internet, as well as mobile, roaming and fixed phone services and broadcast transit.  

Retail revenues of mobile operators amounted to GEL 490 million in 2020, which represents a GEL 9 million decrease year-on-year. 

As for the retail revenues from fixed broadband internet services, the figure increased by 5% year-on-year to GEL 277 million due to subscribers switching to remote services during the pandemic. 

The roaming revenues of telecom companies also decreased due to the pandemic. In 2020, telecom operators collected GEL 87 million in revenues from roaming services, representing a GEL 35 million decrease year-on-year. 

Fixed phone services also accounted for reduced revenues in 2020. Specifically, telecom companies collected GEL 30.2 million in revenues, which is GEL 5.3 million less than in 2019.
