Safety Course for Journalists – Media Academy Training

The Media Academy of the Communications Commission has held two-day training for media representatives on the key issues relating to safe coverage of protests.

Training consisted of theoretical component, as well as important practical activities such as analysing the environment and threats during the coverage of protests. Experienced field experts discussed the mistakes made by the media during the coverage of emergency situations. Journalists learned about the mandatory technical equipment required for working safely in a tense environment.

As part of the training, participants had the opportunity to witness simulated questioning to obtain experience in this area. Journalists also learned the principles of medical first aid.

Training was conducted by photo journalist Davit Mdzinarashvili, SAFE Initiative trainer Giorgi Kupatadze and safety-related issues specialist Irakli Andronikashvili.

At the end of the course, participants were issued with certificates by the Media Academy.
