GNCC has announced auctions in order to ensure broadband services – an initial price of the licenses for the resource usage is approximately 160 million GEL

GNCC, for the purpose to ensure the provision of broadband services, including the implementation of the fourth generation (4G) services, in order to obtain licenses for the use of the radio frequency spectrum, has announced the auction consisting of 9 lots in total.

The auctions in order to obtain licenses for the use of radio frequency spectrum were announced in 800/900/1800/2100 ranges.

Frequency resources available in 800 MHz range are put out in the auction through N1, N2, N3 and N4 lots.  Each lot holds 2x5 MHz radio frequency spectrum with an initial value totaling 24 million 182 193 thousand GEL.

2x4.5 MHz in 900 MHz range is put out in the auction through N5 lot. An initial cost for the use of the noted radio frequency spectrum totals 21 million 112 232 thousand GEL and 85 Tetri.

2x5 MHz available in 1800 MHz range is put out through lot N6 in the auction. An initial cost for the use of the noted radio frequency spectrum totals 13 million 525 957 thousand GEL and 50 Tetri.

Radio frequency spectrum available in 2100 MHz range is put out in the auction through N7, N8 and N9 lots. 2x5 MHz is available in each lot with an initial price totaling 8 million199 336 thousand GEL.

The auction bid in all 9 lots is 5% of the reserve price of the radio frequency resource available in specific range rounded to the whole.  

Overall, Georgian National Communications Commission has put out resources for the use of radio frequency spectrum with an initial value of 160 million GEL in order to ensure broadband services. 

In the contest announced for the purpose to obtain licenses for the use of radio frequency spectrum in order to ensure fourth generation (4G) broadband services (LTE), winning company/companies will be able to use the resource within 15 year term. The company/companies are obligated to cover 90% of the settlement of Georgia as defined by the license term, under following schedule:

 

Ensure service availability for the minimum number of settlements:

1.

30%

Within 1 year after obtaining the license

2.

50%

Within 2 years after obtaining the license

3.

70%

Within 3 years after obtaining the license

4.

90%

Within 4 years after obtaining the license

 

All persons of interest are able to participate in the auction, applications of license seekers shall be submitted to the Commission by May 17, 2016, before 5 pm. The date for the conduction of the auction has been defined for May 31, 2016, at 12 pm.
