Sergo Shavgulidze Elected Vice-Chairman of ITU-R SG5

Member of the Communications Commission Advisory Council, Professor Sergo Shavgulidze, has been elected to serve a second four-year term as Vice-Chairman of Study Group 5 of the International Telecommunication Union’s Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R SG5).

The elections took place at the ITU World Radiocommunication Assembly (RA-2019) at the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, where Mr. Shavgulidze was heading the Georgian delegation.

The ITU-R study groups are formed at the World Radiocommunication Assembly and operate during the period between assemblies. Their purpose is to devise draft recommendations that are subsequently reviewed and approved by ITU member countries. The ITU-R SG5 is tasked with studying terrestrial services, and more specifically the systems and networks for fixed, mobile, radiodetermination, amateur and amateur-satellite services.

The Communications Commission would like to congratulate Sergo Shavgulidze on being elected to this honorary position and wish him success.

The International Telecommunication Union is a specialised agency of the United Nations, where Sergo Shavgulidze is the only Georgian representative.
