Starting February, all three mobile operators will be able to supply with fourth-generation (4G) broadband services

In accordance with the decision made by GNCC, all three mobile operators will be able to start supplying with fourth-generation (4G) broadband services starting February 1, 2015.

Based on technological and service neutrality principle, the Commission has completed the modification and 15-year term extension process for the use of radio frequency spectrum licenses at (800/900/1800/2100) MHz harmonized ranges. For “Magticom” Ltd (№F2, №F4, №F12, №F15,  №F16), for “Geocell” Ltd (№F17, №F18, №F20,  №F24) and for “Mobitel” Ltd (№F5, №F42,  №F59).

“Magticom” Ltd, in order to ensure fourth-generation (4G) broadband services to use radio frequency spectrum licenses (№F4, №F15, №F97) for the next 15-year term, based on technological and service neutrality principle, in total, has to make a payment of 154 212 964 GEL and 91 TETRI in favor of the State Budget of Georgia.

“Geocell” Ltd, in order to ensure fourth-generation (4G) broadband services to use radio frequency spectrum licenses (№F17, №F 18, №F20) for the next 15-year term, based on technological and service neutrality principle, in total, has to make a payment of 103 992 505 GEL and 92 TETRI in favor of the State Budget of Georgia.

“Mobitel” Ltd, in order to ensure fourth-generation (4G) broadband services to use radio frequency spectrum licenses (№F59 and №F5) for the next 15-year term, based on technological and service neutrality principle, in total, has to make a payment of 30 038 616 GEL in favor of the State Budget of Georgia.

Overall, all three mobile operators in order to ensure 4G technologies to use radio frequency spectrum licenses based on the Commission’s pre-defined payment schedule, in 24 months period, starting March 1, 2015 up until February 1, 2017 will make a payment of 288 244 086 GEL and 83 TETRI in favor of the State Budget of Georgia.
