Statement of the Georgian National Communications Commission

The Georgian National Communications Commission responds to the information distributed through mass media in the last period about Georgian TV Broadcasting Iveria.

We remind you that Georgian TV Broadcasting Iveria received a license for private broadcasting via cable network on August 26, 2011. According to the request of the company, the company should have started broadcasting within two months after issuing a license. Type of the license is general broadcasting, geographical area is Tbilisi, Batumi, Zugdidi, Poti, Senaki, Kutaisi and Rustavi cities, duration of broadcast is 18 hours, which was also requested in the license seeker’s application.

We explain that the Georgian National Communications Commission is guided by the Laws of Georgia on Electronic Communications, the Law on Broadcasting and the Law on Regulatory Bodies. Consequently private relations between the broadcasting license holders and undertakings authorized for transit of broadcasting is not the Commission’s sphere of regulation. Besides, in accordance with Georgian legislation, holding the broadcasting license does not mean the broadcasting transit company’s obligation to put any broadcasting channel in its own broadcasting network.

All broadcasting companies should take into account that pursuant to Article 74 of the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting the license holder may suspend licensed activities for 90 days or 120 days intermittently within one calendar year.

Broadcasting is business activities and each broadcasting company should be concerned about selling its own production for more profit.
