The 12th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium – WTIS 2014 ended today

The 12th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium – WTIS 2014 ended on November 26.

The event was closed with final speeches made by director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau - Brahima Sanou, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development - Dimitri Kumsiashvili, Deputy Director General of National Statistics Office of Georgia - Tengiz Tsekvava and the Chairman of Georgian National Communications Commission - Vakhtang Abashidze.

On final session of the 12th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium, director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau Brahima Sanou awarded Georgia and those other countries, which during the past year, according to the ICT Development Index country rankings made the list as the most dynamic performers in developing countries. Based on ICT Development Index country rankings among 166 countries, Georgia’s rating improved by five steps and moved from 83rd to 78th place.

The three day Symposium was attended by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) members - over three hundred delegates from over one hundred countries. Among guests were ministers from telecommunication field and heads of regulatory authorities, as well as, the sector operators and representatives of research institutions.
