The 12th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium – WTIS 2014 has opened

 

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has officially opened the 12th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium – WTIS 2014 on November 24.

The Symposium is being attended by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) members - over three hundred delegates from over one hundred countries. Among guests are ICT  ministers and heads of regulatory authorities from different countries of the world.

The audience was welcomed by ITU’s newly elected Secretary – General - Houlin Zhao, by the director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau -  Brahima Sanou, also, by Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development – Giorgi Kvirikashvili and by the Chairman of Georgian National Communications Commission – Vakhtang Abashidze.

On the first working day of Symposium, ITU released annual global ICT data &ICT Development Index country rankings. The report notes that, Georgia, based on ICT Development Index ranking of 166 countries, made a list as one of the most dynamic performers alongside 9 developing countries. Also, Georgia’s rating in ICT Development Index ranking has improved by five steps and has moved from 83rd  to 78th place.
