ComCom Issues a Written Warning to Media Holding Georgian Times and Radio Georgian Times for Legal Violations

The Communications Commission has issued a written warning to Media Holding Georgian Times and Radio Georgian Times for violating the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting. The case concerns the information disseminated by the broadcaster across digital and online platforms, including its broadcast programming, online television service, YouTube channel, and social media platforms. The complaint was filed with the Commission by LEPL Ilia State University.

The Commission found that the information disseminated on air and online by Media Holding Georgian Times and Radio Georgian Times violated the requirements of the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting. Specifically, the broadcasters failed to take the appropriate measures to ensure that the allegations made during the programme were subject to critical scrutiny, that the subjects of the allegations were given the opportunity to exercise their right of reply, that the audiences were presented with a broad range of viewpoints, and that the principle of impartiality was upheld.

Due to the fact that neither Media Holding Georgian Times nor Radio Georgian Times had been subject to any form of administrative liability for a similar violation during the previous year, the Communications Commission decided to impose a written warning on both companies.
