ComCom Presents “A Pathway to Media Literacy” to Kindergarten Representatives in the Municipality of Gori

As part of its efforts to introduce media literacy into preschool education, the Communications Commission held a working meeting with representatives of the Gori Municipal Preschool Education Agency, as well as kindergarten principals and methodologists.

The meeting focussed on the importance of developing media literacy skills from an early age and using relevant resources in the educational process. ComCom representatives presented the guidebook “A Pathway to Media Literacy,” published by the Commission and adapted into Georgian. The guidebook brings together practical activities and teaching methods designed for preschool institutions.

The guidebook was developed by the Finnish National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) and covers three main areas: understanding and evaluating media, media creation, and navigating the media environment. Tailored to children’s age-related needs, the resource provides educators with practical tools to help develop media literacy skills.

To introduce media literacy into preschool education, the Communications Commission adapted “A Pathway to Media Literacy” to the Georgian educational standards in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and the National Center for Teacher Professional Development (TPDC). ComCom plans to raise awareness about this resource among kindergartens across Georgia and distribute it gradually.
