ComCom Representative Takes Part in the 21st European Spectrum Management Conference and D2D Policy Forum
Representative of the Spectrum and Technology Department of the Communications Commission, Giorgi Papava, took part in the 21st European Spectrum Management Conference (ESMC) and the Direct-to-Device (D2D) Satellite Mobile Communications Policy Forum. The events focussed on spectrum policy, regulatory developments, and future strategies for spectrum management and implementation in Europe and beyond.
The conference covered a broad range of issues, including: spectrum policy and the proposed Digital Networks Act; updates to spectrum management and licensing frameworks; the evolution beyond fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks and Europe's strategic roadmap toward 6G; licensing of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) and ensuring coexistence of satellite systems in space; spectrum allocation and improving network efficiency; future development of the upper 6 GHz, 2 GHz, and sub-700 MHz frequency bands; private networks and industrial spectrum use; setting priorities and objectives for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027; and others.
During the working sessions, the regulatory authorities also examined the international policy models for D2D services; deployment of satellite mobile communications in harmonised International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) frequency bands; the strategic and commercial applications of D2D technology; the role of D2D in promoting innovation, digital sovereignty and competition within the European single market; the impact of satellite communications on spectrum management and end-user spectrum utilization, etc.
The 21st European Spectrum Management Conference and the D2D Policy Forum form part of the Global Spectrum Series, an international forum that brings together more than 200 industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders to share best practices and promote the efficient management and use of the radio spectrum.
