Goga Gulordava: “All Decisions of the Communications Commission will Serve the Interests of the Country and the Public”

The newly elected Chairman of the Communications Commission opened his first session with welcoming remarks and spoke about the importance of the telecommunications sector, broadcasting, and media literacy. He thanked the members of the Commission for showing their confidence in him, and stated that ComCom’s effective work has an even greater significance and role in the digital era.

“First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my colleagues and to each one of you for the trust shown towards me. For me, this is not only an honour, but also a great responsibility, a challenge, and a motivation. I am confident that we will overcome all the tasks and challenges before us, and together accomplish many good things. I would also like to thank my predecessor, Mr. Kakha Bekauri, for his many years of work and wish him success in his future endeavours. The role of the Commission is very important in the digital era, when technologies have become part of our everyday lives. Naturally, our goal is to support the business sector, open the market, promote competition, and facilitate the implementation of new technologies. Every project and decision adopted by the Commission will, first and foremost, serve the interests and needs of the country and the public,” the Chairman of the Commission stated.

In his remarks, Goga Gulordava also focussed on the achievements and challenges in the broadcasting sector. According to him, the Commission will act in accordance with the law and work to free the media space from biased and false information.

“We can confidently say that, as a result of the policies pursued in the country today—and of course, the Communications Commission has played an important role in implementing these policies—we have achieved media pluralism and freedom of expression. This is evidenced by the fact that there are currently 108 broadcasters, including 20 national broadcasters. By comparison, before 2012 there were only four national broadcasters in the country. However, this diversity has also created other challenges: as unfortunate as it is, the media space is saturated with fake news and disinformation; we often encounter bias and violations of the principles of fairness, and this remains one of the acute challenges for us as a regulator. Freedom of speech and expression is ensured in the country, and the Commission will firmly uphold it; however, we must do everything to protect the best interests of viewers and to ensure that the media space is as free as possible from false information,” Goga Gulordava stated.

At the end of his speech, the ComCom Chairman also highlighted the third area under ComCom’s regulatory scope—media literacy development—stating that the Commission has been working in this field for eight years and will continue to actively implement projects tailored to target audiences.

Goga Gulordava was unanimously approved by the Parliament of Georgia as a member of ComCom with 77 votes in December 2025. On 29 January 2026, the members of the Communications Commission unanimously elected him as Chairman of the Commission for a three-year term and approved the election results during the same session.
