Transit Broadcasting Revenues Amount to GEL 144.3 Million in 2023

According to the 2023 Activity Report of the Communications Commission, the number of customers receiving transit broadcasting services in 2023 decreased by 9000 year-on-year to 745,000, which was due to the termination of Magtisat services. The customer density also decreased slightly: the usage of transit broadcasting services by customers amounted to 67.1%, which is 1% less than in 2022. It is worth noting that with the exception of 2023, the number of transit broadcasting users grew in each of the last 5 years. The average annual growth of customers after 2019 is 2%.

As of 2023, IPTV was still the most common means of transit broadcasting. The number of IPTV customers increased by 31,100 year-on-year to 645,000. The number of DVBT users increased by 400 to a total of 44,300. As for satellite technology, the number of users fell by 34,800 to a mere 200. The number of online television users also decreased by 2200 to 12,800. The number of coaxial technology users fell to 16,100 (2300 less than in 2022). As for radio frequency technology, once again the number of users decreased to a total of 25,800 (3100 below the previous year’s figure).

As for revenues, in 2023 the revenues received from transit broadcasting amounted to GEL 144.3 million, which is 8 million more than the previous year’s figure. IPTV technology accounted for the largest share of total revenues at GEL 131.2 million, which is 9.6 million more than in 2022. The radio frequency technology collected GEL 4.6 million in revenues (4.2 million more than in the previous year). The satellite technology revenues remained the same (GEL 0.2 million). The revenues of coaxial technology increased by GEL 2.5 million to 2.7 million. DVBT revenues increased by GEL 4.7 million to 5.1 million. As for online television, the 2023 revenues totalled GEL 0.55 million (0.52 million more than in the previous year).
