200 More Youths Taught to Use Internet Safely Through the “Happy Onlife” App

To mark the Safer Internet Day, media literacy trainers of the Communications Commission held trainings for school pupils in Tbilisi, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli. Pupils were introduced to the “Happy Onlife” app, which has been recognised in numerous EU countries. With the help of app games, up to 200 III and IV grade pupils learned how to navigate internet safely and protect themselves from cyberbullying. The Communications Commission marks the global Safer Internet Day each year.

“Happy Onlife” is an online app for young people that uses games to teach children safe and responsible use of digital media, as well as critical assessment and analysis of online content. “Happy Onlife” has been recognised as a successful app in 9 countries of the EU. It helps parents and teachers to actively work on developing children’s media literacy skills and protect them from cyberbullying. “Happy Onlife” is seen as one of the most effective media literacy projects. The app is available in 9 languages, and has been adapted and translated into Georgian by the Communications Commission. The adapted Georgian app can be downloaded free of charge on mobile devices (IOS and Android) and personal computers.

Each year, Georgia takes part in the global Safer Internet Day initiative, the goal of which is to enable positive and safe use of the internet and digital technologies among children and youths by raising awareness among the youngsters and their parents. As the body responsible for the development of media literacy in Georgia, the Communications Commission holds various events to develop critical and creative thinking and media literacy skills among target groups.
