Advertising Revenues of TV and Radio Broadcasters Totalled GEL 16.3 Million in the Third Quarter of 2022

In the third quarter of 2022, commercial advertising revenues of TV and radio broadcasters totalled GEL 16.3 million, which represents a GEL 1.7 million (9.3%) decrease year-on-year. The decline in advertising revenues was conditioned by the new regulations on gambling ads, which came into effect on March 1, 2022. Prior to the regulations taking effect, gambling firms were among the largest advertisers. During the third quarter of 2021, TV and radio broadcasters received more than GEL 3.7 million in advertising revenues from gambling firms. 

Direct advertising accounted for 70.8% of advertising revenues of TV and radio broadcasters, while sponsorship accounted for 17% (an increase of 7.4% over the previous year).

In the third quarter of 2022, advertising revenues of TV broadcasters totalled GEL 15 million, of which 69.3% were direct advertising revenues and 17.3% were sponsorship revenues (an increase of 7.8% over the previous year).

Imedi TV once again had the largest share of commercial TV advertising revenues in Q3. Its revenues decreased by GEL 0.4 million year-on-year to GEL 4.9 million. The advertising revenues of Mtavari TV fell by GEL 0.2 million year-on-year to GEL 2.1 million, while the revenues of Media Holding (formerly Rustavi 2) fell by GEL 0.2 million to GEL 1.5 million. The revenues of PosTV remained unchanged at GEL 1.4 million. TV Pirveli saw its revenues decrease by GEL 0.2 million year-on-year to GEL 1.1 million. The revenues of Formula remained unchanged at GEL 0.9 million, while BMG collected GEL 0.8 million in revenues. GDS TV collected GEL 0.5 million (same as in the previous year). The revenues of the Georgian Public Broadcaster fell by GEL 0.2 million to GEL 0.4 million, while Silknet’s revenues fell by GEL 0.7 million to a mere GEL 0.2 million. The remaining broadcasters collected a total of GEL 0.9 million in advertising revenues.

The advertising revenues of radio broadcasters in Q3 2022 decreased by GEL 0.3 million year-on-year to GEL 1.4 million, with direct advertising accounting for 86.4% of the revenues and sponsorship accounting for 13.3% (an increase of 3.1% over the previous year). The largest advertising revenues were posted by Radio Holding Fortuna (GEL 740,000), followed by Radio Imedi (GEL 126,000), Radio Palitra (GEL 89,000), Georgian Radio (GEL 73,000), MD Group (GEL 71,000), Voice of Abkhazia (GEL 44,000), Radio Georgian Times (GEL 28,000), Mediastream (GEL 26,000), Hereti (GEL 22,000), and Dzveli Kalaki (GEL 17,000). The advertising revenues of all other radio broadcasters totalled GEL 137,000.

 

Commercial advertising revenues include adverts, sponsorship, product placement, notices and teleshopping.
