Advertising Revenues of TV and Radio Broadcasters Totalled GEL 19 Million in the Second Quarter of 2022

In the second quarter of 2022, commercial advertising revenues of TV and radio broadcasters totalled GEL 19 million, which represents a GEL 4.1 million (17.5%) decrease year-on-year. The decline in advertising revenues was conditioned by the new regulations on gambling ads, which came into effect on 1 March 2022. Prior to the regulations taking effect, gambling firms were among the largest advertisers. During the second quarter of 2021, TV and radio broadcasters received more than GEL 4.6 million in advertising revenues from gambling firms.

Direct advertising accounted for 67.4% of advertising revenues of TV and radio broadcasters, while sponsorship accounted for 21.7% (an increase of 9.7% over the previous year). 

In the second quarter of 2022, advertising revenues of TV broadcasters totalled GEL 17.5 million, of which 66.1% were direct advertising revenues and 22.1% were sponsorship revenues (an increase of 10.2% over the previous year).

Teleimedi once again had the largest share of commercial TV advertising revenues in Q2. Its revenues decreased by GEL 0.9 million year-on-year to GEL 6 million. The advertising and sponsorship revenues of Mtavari Arkhi fell by GEL 0.6 million year-on-year to GEL 2.6 million, while the revenues of Media Holding (formerly Rustavi 2) fell by GEL 0.4 million to GEL 2.1 million. The revenues of TV Formula remained unchanged at GEL 1.8 million. TV Pirveli saw its revenues decrease by GEL 0.3 million year-on-year to GEL 1.4 million. PosTV collected GEL 1 million in revenues (a decrease of GEL 0.2 million year-on-year). The revenues of the Georgian Public Broadcaster fell by GEL 0.1 million to GEL 0.8 million, while GDS TV collected GEL 0.4 million (a decrease of GEL 0.2 million). Silknet’s revenues fell by GEL 0.7 million to a mere GEL 0.2 million, while the revenues of Obiektivi remained unchanged at GEL 0.1 million. The remaining broadcasters collected a total of GEL 0.9 million in advertising revenues.

The advertising revenues of radio broadcasters in Q2 2022 decreased by GEL 0.2 million year-on-year to GEL 1.5 million, with direct advertising accounting for 82.9% of the revenues and sponsorship accounting for 16.9% (an increase of 4% over the previous year). The largest advertising revenues were posted by Radio Holding Fortuna (GEL 885,000), followed by Radio Imedi (GEL 156,000), Radio Palitra (GEL 91,300), Georgian Radio (GEL 77,500), MD Group (GEL 67,000), Voice of Abkhazia (GEL 47,900), Chveni Radio (GEL 47,300), Hereti (GEL 30,500), Radio Georgian Times (GEL 25,700) and Mediastream (GEL 22,200). The advertising revenues of all other radio broadcasters totalled GEL 145,600. 

Commercial advertising revenues include adverts, sponsorship, product placement, notices and teleshopping.
