The monitoring carried out by the Communications Commission established that Cellfie Mobile’s 5G internet in Bakuriani and Zugdidi is significantly faster than the 4G/LTE internet of Magticom and Silknet, while the speed of Silknet’s mobile internet in Tbilisi is similar. Mobile internet monitoring showed that in the regions where 5G technology has already been implemented, the speed of mobile internet is about 1.5-2 times higher than the speed of 4G/LTE networks.

Following the implementation of 5G technology, ComCom first carried out the monitoring of mobile internet speeds to test the performance of the 5G network in July. Monitoring was carried out in Tbilisi, Zugdidi and Bakuriani using the latest hardware of the Rode-Schwartz “Smartbenchmarker” programme and the latest generation of mobile phones with 5G support. The monitoring activities covered both the 5G and 4G/LTE networks of Magticom, Silknet and Cellfie Mobile.

The monitoring results showed that the average download speed on Cellfie Mobile’s 5G network in Zugdidi is 129 MB/s, compared to 81 MB/s on Silknet’s 4G/LTE network and 59 MB/s on Magticom’s network. In Bakuriani, the figures are as follows: 98 MB/s for Cellfie Mobile, 50 MB/s for Silknet, and 47 MB/s for Magticom. As for Tbilisi, here the download speeds on the Cellfie Mobile and Silknet networks are the same (47 MB/s), which is due to the fact that Cellfie Mobile has not yet fully implemented 5G technology in the capital. The average download speed on the Magticom network in Tbilisi is 33 MB/s.

Cellfie Mobile achieved such a remarkable increase in its network speed by using 5G technology, which it implemented based on the frequencies it acquired in a 2023 auction conducted by the Communications Commission.

The Communications Commission will conduct regular testing and monitoring of 5G networks with the latest equipment starting in 2025.
