ComCom: 525,000 subscribers were using the 50 Mbps internet package in 2024, while only 8,000 were using the 100 Mbps package

According to the 2024 Activity Report of the Communications Commission, major operators Magticom and Silknet increased the maximum fibre-optic internet speeds for residential subscribers. As a result, the 50 Mbps internet package became most popular, followed by the 45 Mbps package (234,000 subscribers). For comparison, in 2023 most subscribers used the 30 Mbps package, while the second most popular package had a maximum speed of 25 Mbps. These changes took place due to Magticom replacing its 30 Mbps package with the 50 Mbps package, and the 50 Mbps package with the 80 Mbps package. Silknet replaced its 25 Mbps, 35 Mbps and 50 Mbps internet packages with 45 Mbps, 60 Mbps and 80 Mbps packages, respectively.

It is also worth noting that for the first time in Georgia, a 150 Mbps internet package has been made available to the residential subscribers of Silknet. However, in 2024 this package was only used by 5,000 subscribers.

Based on the report, 241,000 subscribers in Tbilisi used the popular 50 Mbps internet package, which is 216,000 more than in the previous year. The new 45 Mbps internet package was already used by 110,000 subscribers in 2024. The 60 Mbps and 80 Mbps packages, which have also been on offer since 2024, were used by 32,000 and 26,000 subscribers, respectively. The number of subscribers using the 40 Mbps package in 2024 was 30,000, which is 28,000 more than in the previous year. This is due to the operators increasing the maximum speed of the package by 10 Mbps without changing the price. On the other hand, the number of subscribers using the 100 Mbps package in Tbilisi in 2024 decreased by 1,000 to a total of 6,000. The number of people using the 35 Mbps package fell from 31,000 in 2023 to 5,000 a year later, while the number of subscribers using the 20 Mbps decreased by 1,000 to 4,000. As for the 25 Mbps package, it was no longer in use in 2024, having had 109,000 users a year earlier. These changes were primarily due to the operators replacing low-speed packages with higher-speed equivalents.

Similar to Tbilisi, the distribution of subscribers by internet package also changed in the regions due to the increased speeds. The number of subscribers using the most popular 50 Mbps package increased by 277,000 year-over-year to 284,000. The new 45 Mbps package also proved very popular in the regions and was already used by 124,000 subscribers in 2024. The 20 Mbps package had 29,000 subscribers, which is 2,000 more than in the previous year. On the other hand, the number of subscribers using the 30 Mbps package fell by 265,000 to just 28,000. The new 60 Mbps and 80 Mbps packages were used by 26,000 and 4,000 residential subscribers, respectively. The number of subscribers using the 25 Mbps decreased by 131,000 to 5,000, while the number of people using the 100 Mbps package fell by half to just 2,000. Similarly, the 35 Mbps package was used by 2,000 subscribers, which is 17,000 less than in the previous year.
