ComCom and Media Lab Announce Global Media Literacy Hackathon
Within the framework of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week, the Media Lab of the Communications Commission will hold a media literacy hackathon for young people, which aims to identify media literacy-related challenges and innovative ways of resolving them, as well as raise awareness about the opportunities in the digital media industry. Teams can register for the hackathon until 24 November.
This year's themes of the global media literacy hackathon themes are disinformation, digital literacy and cyber security. Teams must develop and present ideas to solve challenges around these topics. Taking into account the relevance of the problem, the effectiveness of the solution and sustainability of the project, 10 best teams will be selected to work for 2 days with professional mentors to develop a business project of an idea, a product MVP, or a prototype. After intensive training, the teams will present their projects to a competent jury, after which three winners will be announced. The Communications Commission will award GEL 5000 to the winning team, GEL 3000 GEL to the second-placed team, and GEL 1000 to the third-placed team.
Participation in the global media literacy hackathon is free and open to people aged 18-35. Each team must have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 participants.
The UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week, which aims to raise public awareness about the importance of media literacy, has been held annually following the 2021 UN resolution. The Communications Commission, as the agency responsible for the development of media literacy in the country, prioritises the inclusion of more stakeholders and citizens in this process.
