ComCom and SpaceX Representatives Hold a Working Meeting

Members of the Communications Commission have held another working meeting with the regional market access manager of Starlink, Ben McWilliams. Starlink, which is owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, received authorisation from the Communications Commission to provide satellite internet services in Georgia. On his return visit to the country, Mr. McWilliams met with Commissioner Ekaterine Imedadze and other representatives of the Commission. The Starlink representative informed them about the ongoing preparatory works and future plans. The Communications Commission spent several months working with SpaceX prior to granting authorisation to Starlink Georgia.

Starlink is one of the world’s leading satellite broadband system that provides access to fast broadband internet across the world, including in places where access to internet is expensive, unreliable, inadequate or completely unavailable. As of today, SpaceX has launched more than 2700 low orbit satellites for the Starlink system. Starlink especially important and attractive for the mountainous regions and settlements that currently do not have broadband internet coverage. The introduction of Starlink will ensure access to high-speed internet for the population in all such geographical areas.
