ComCom and US Embassy Representatives Hold Working Meeting on Media and Electronic Communications Issues
The Communications Commission held a working meeting with representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia and American expert Shane Tews, focusing on the changing role of communications and media regulators in the age of artificial intelligence. Shane Tews is President of Logan Circle Strategies and a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. His areas of expertise include the digital economy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, internet governance, data protection, and emerging technologies.
The meeting addressed global trends and emerging priorities in the electronic communications and media sectors. Participants also discussed the opportunities and challenges created by the development of artificial intelligence and new technologies for consumers, telecommunications operators, media service providers and regulatory authorities.
The discussion covered AI governance and the role of telecommunications and media regulators in this area, as well as coordination among the institutions responsible for telecommunications, competition, data protection, consumer protection and cybersecurity.
Participants discussed the need to strike a balance between effective regulation and innovation, as well as between investment and competition. The discussion also addressed cybersecurity risks associated with artificial intelligence and the resilience of telecommunications networks.
The meeting also examined regulatory approaches and practical experience in the United States, the United Kingdom, and European Union member states.
At the end of the working meeting, participants discussed Georgia’s role in the global digital environment, the country’s potential competitive advantages, and opportunities for strategic development.
