ComCom Announces Media Literacy Olympiad for Teachers and Students
As part of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week, the Communications Commission has announced the Media Literacy Olympiad for teachers and students, aimed at raising awareness about media literacy and encouraging the fight against disinformation among the school community.
The Olympiad is open to teams composed of I-V and VI-XII students, each led by one teacher. Teams must answer the question “How do we deal with disinformation?" in the form of a blog, essay, article, video, podcast, digital poster or comic, and submit their work to the Communications Commission by 16 October. The submissions will be assessed by a competent jury panel, which will identify the most creative and informative works in both age categories. The Communications Commission will equip the schools of the winning teams with a modern media lab. Additionally, the Commission will award high-tech prizes such as laptops, interactive whiteboards, microphones, LED lighting, mobile tripods and banners.
In addition, the ten best submissions will be placed on the media literacy platform https://mediatsigniereba.ge/, while each participant will receive an appropriate certificate.
There is no limit to the number of participants in a team, but each team may only submit one work.
The UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week has been held annually on the basis of the 2021 UN resolution, serving to raise public awareness about media literacy and its importance. One of the main priorities for the Communications Commission, as the body responsible for media literacy development in the country, is to ensure that as many citizens as possible become involved in this process.
