ComCom Announces the Second Media Literacy Olympiad for Schools

The Communications Commission has announced the second Media Literacy Olympiad for teachers and students. Held within the framework of UNESCO's Global Media and Information Literacy Week, the event is designed to raise awareness about media literacy in schools.

The Olympiad is open to teams composed of I-V and VI-XII grade students, each led by one teacher. Teams must produce a video, presentation, comic or digital poster on the topic of “Artificial Intelligence and Disinformation – Challenge or Opportunity?”, and submit it to the Communications Commission by 16 October. The submissions will be evaluated by a competent jury panel, which will select the most informative and creative works in both age categories. The Communications Commission will equip the schools of the winning teams with a modern media lab. Additionally, the Commission will award high-tech prizes such as laptops, interactive whiteboards, microphones, LED lighting, mobile tripods and banners.

In addition, the ten best submissions will be placed on the media literacy platform https://mediatsigniereba.ge/, while each participant will receive an appropriate certificate.

There is no limit to the number of participants in a team, but each team may only submit one work.

The Communications Commission held the first edition of the Media Literacy Olympiad last year, with an unprecedented number of schools showing interest in the competition. More than 500 entries were submitted, with around 2,800 students and 450 teachers participating. St. George's International School of Tbilisi and Kutaisi Public School N45 won the contest and received a modern media lab from the Communications Commission.

The UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week has been held annually on the basis of the 2021 UN resolution, serving to raise public awareness about media literacy and its importance. One of the main priorities for the Communications Commission, as the body responsible for media literacy development in the country, is to ensure that as many citizens as possible become involved in this process.
