ComCom Cautions Imedi for Violating Product Placement Regulations

The Communications Commission has issued a written caution to TV Imedi for violating the product placement regulations outlined in the legislation. The case concerns the programme “Imedis Dila,” which was monitored by the Commission to determine whether the rules of sponsorship, product (goods/services) placement, teleshopping and advertising had been violated.

The monitoring established that the aforementioned programme promoted the company Manna, its products and its logo. The content of the programme was tailored to the company whose products had an important place in the programme. The focus was on the company’s new product, its characteristics, its content and its positive features.

The Communications Commission discussed the issue and determined that the importance of the product was exaggerated, which also influenced the programme content. According to the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting, “products (goods/services) shall be placed in a programme so that they do not: influence the content of the programme, including the editorial independence of the broadcaster; contain a direct appeal to purchase the product; or exaggerate the importance of the product.”

Consequently, the Communications Commission issued a written caution to TV Imedi for violating the legislation.
