ComCom Cautions “Obieqtivi” for Broadcasting Political Adverts in Violation of the Law

The Communications Commission has issued a written caution to TV Obieqivi for broadcasting political adverts in violation of the law. The Commission carried out media monitoring and found that in August of this year, the broadcaster aired such adverts on numerous occasions. Specifically, the video clips include party leaders and other representatives of the political union Alliance of Patriots of Georgia talking about issues such as pensions, land sale to foreign nationals, recovery of deposits, etc. At the same time, the activities of other parties and political forces are criticised.

Having studied the circumstances, the Commission found that the video clips aired by the broadcaster served to promote the political union Alliance of Patriots of Georgia and hinder other parties in the upcoming elections. The Commission deemed the video clips in question to constitute political advertising, which broadcasters are prohibited from airing outside of the period and procedure stipulated by the Election Code.

Due to the fact that Obieqtivi had not committed a similar violation during the past year, the Commission issued the broadcaster with a written caution in accordance with the legislation.
