ComCom Chairman and Commissioner Take Part in WSIS 2026 Summit

Chairman of the Communications Commission Goga Gulordava, together with the ComCom delegation, took part in the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum and the "AI for Good" Global Summit, held in Geneva. The events were organised by the International Telecommunication Union, in cooperation with UN agencies, including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Swiss Confederation. Alongside Chairman Gulordava, the ComCom delegation included member of the Communications Commission Ekaterine Imedadze, and Head of the International Relations Department Nino Grdzelishvili.

During the events, representatives of government institutions and organisations from more than 120 countries reviewed the progress in implementing the commitments set out in the WSIS+20 Resolution adopted in 2025. Discussions focussed on key issues including universal connectivity, artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, online risks and disinformation, leveraging digital technologies for sustainable development, and building a human-centred and user-focussed digital future.

Chairman Goga Gulordava took part in the Roundtable of Heads of Regulatory Authorities, which focussed on implementing the GSR-26 Best Practice Guidelines adopted at the 26th Global Symposium for Regulators, and developing innovative governance strategies. During the forum, Mr. Gulordava also met with Nele Leosk, Estonia's candidate for Director of the ITU Development Bureau.

As a representative of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg), member of the Commission Ekaterine Imedadze took part in a roundtable discussion co-organised by the Digital Regulation Network. The session focused on 5G technologies and digital transformation; digital skills and education; and emerging and cloud technologies.

Ekaterine Imedadze also spoke at the high-level Leaders TalkX session, where senior officials exchanged technical expertise and shared international, national and institutional experiences. Discussions focussed on legal and regulatory frameworks supporting digital transformation, attracting investment in the digital sector, protecting consumer rights online, etc.

In addition, Ms. Imedadze addressed the GovStack Digital Leaders Forum, which promotes inclusive and accessible digital public infrastructure while strengthening the role of women in digital transformation. She also took part in a session bringing together women ministers and female leaders in information and communication technologies to discuss strategies for reducing gender and digital inequalities, and expanding opportunities for women.

The World Summit on the Information Society is a global multi-stakeholder platform that brings together governments, regulators, civil society, the private sector, academia, international organisations, and industry leaders. The forum serves as a platform for reviewing the achievements, emerging trends, challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the 2003 Geneva Plan of Action and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while promoting international cooperation on digital development. The 2026 WSIS Forum was held alongside the ITU's "AI for Good" Global Summit and the International Dialogue on AI Governance organised by the United Nations General Assembly.
