ComCom Finds Objeqtivi to be in Violation of Rules on Due Accuracy

Based on a complaint filed by the citizen L. Mamporia, the Communications Commission found Obieqtivi to have violated the rules on due accuracy on air, and freed the broadcaster from liability. Specifically, the broadcaster was found to have disseminated information about L. Mamporia without maintaining due accuracy, and reported information obtained from an anonymous source as a fact without clearly informing the viewers about the anonymity of the source, which constitutes a violation of the Georgian Law on Broadcasting.
The story aired by the broadcaster concerned a private individual and contained significant allegations against him, which the TV channel was obliged to cover with particular accuracy, using all reasonable measures to prevent dissemination of false or misleading information. It is worth noting that the broadcaster also disseminated the said story through social networks, which also violated the requirements established by the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting regarding the rules for posting information on the internet.
The complaint included a demand to refute the information disseminated by the broadcaster in the same programme, which the Communications Commission satisfied. Under the powers granted to it by law, the Commission determined that the broadcaster failed to properly verify the information, which violated the standards of due accuracy.
In light of the aforementioned circumstances, the Communications Commission partially satisfied L. Mamporia's complaint and deemed Obieqtivi to have violated the law. However, as the violation was committed before 1 June 2025, the broadcaster was freed from administrative liability. In addition, ComCom ordered Obieqtivi to remove the story from the social network.
